Case Studies
Linea in the VW Tiguan
With the launch of the Tiguan 2025, Volkswagen America introduced an innovation to the US car market: the dashboard "wing" panel, which extends over the entire driver and passenger sides, was made from genuine wood. Thanks to Linea, the wing has become an eye-catching part of the vehicle’s elegant interior. The look and feel of the American walnut veneer emphasizes the luxurious appearance of the Tiguan 2025.
Linea in Merkur Spielbank Monheim
It's no secret that everything in a casino revolves around the game, both at the machines and on the table. However, an enormous designer veneer wall is also pretty eye catching – at 225m2, it’s not something you see every day. Together with Danzer Custom Solutions, German-based Maschmeier Objekteinrichtungen crafted this masterpiece. With integrated 3D ellipses, the seamless Linea veneer cladding has adorned the classic gaming room in Monheim am Rhein, Germany's most modern casino, since 2023.

Linea in the VW Tiguan
Linea in the VW Tiguan
With the decision to integrate real wood into the VW Tiguan 2025 interior, Volkswagen wanted to "move away from the industrial and artificial aesthetics that prevail in the automotive industry", says head designer Paulina Zamudio. Real materials replace imitations to create a natural and authentic ambience.
Materials used in the automotive industry must meet particularly high standards. Here too, the exceptional qualities of Linea veneer made it the obvious winner - meeting stringent safety regulations and conforming with lightfastness, stability during prolonged sunlight exposure, and alternating temperatures. Linea delivers consistent quality and appearance over the entire service life of the vehicle.
Three reasons why Volkswagen chose Linea
- Linea is available in consistently high and uniform quality over many years.
- Danzer provides certified wood and a transparent production chain, ensuring responsible use of the renewable raw material.
- Danzer has over 15 years of experience in the supply of engineered veneers for the automotive market.
A successful start
"A car not only has to fulfill a function but must also give its owner pleasure for many years when they get behind the wheel. With LINEA's premium natural appearance, we are sure of this," says Paulina Zamudio.
Since its market launch in November 2024, the new VW Tiguan has received much praise, not least for its interior design. The use of genuine American walnut veneer for the wing has been highlighted in many reviews, underlining the premium feel and high-quality finish of the vehicle.

3D ellipses: A stunning visual
Maschmeier Objekteinrichtungen has been working on behalf of the Merkur Group for almost two decades. Managing Director Marc Schöne understands his client’s high standards only too well: "For such a high-quality design, real wood was the only choice." The client quickly opted for a dark, warm walnut tone.
Ellipses are a recurring design element in the Merkur Spielbank Monheim. These impressive 3D features were also part of the wall design in the classic gaming area - at the request of Merkur architect Tanja Strötker.
Appearing in three different sizes, the 3D ellipses create texture and visual highlights across the veneered paneling. However, the distribution of these shapes across the wall also posed the challenge of how to maintain a smooth appearance of the veneer across the seams. It was impossible to produce a single veneer panel for this wall size, so instead of using adhesive to attach the ellipses to the wall, the experts decided to mill the ellipses five millimeters deep into the panels - like puzzle pieces.
Linea in 3D veneer: The perfect solution
Working with Linea to create both the wall and the 3D ellipses solved several challenges for the designers:
- Compared to conventional veneer, Linea always delivers uniform high quality - even on large surfaces such as in the Merkur Spielbank. This made it possible to create a wall with consistency of color and texture.
- Danzer can transform almost any veneer into 3D veneer. After the raw veneer has undergone a special 3D process, it is particularly malleable – making it the perfect solution for the double-curved ellipses.
- With Linea, the Danzer team was also able to guarantee uniformity across the entire wall, as the Linea veneer was applicable anywhere on the wall. Correct alignment of the ellipses resulted in a smooth, continuous pattern.
Close cooperation with Danzer
Maschmeier provided Danzer with three-dimensional, MDF ellipses that had been created in CAD and milled on a CNC machine. The veneer pattern was drawn onto these still "bare" ellipses. For cutting out, the Danzer team projected the patterns onto the Linea veneer with a laser, so that the lines on the ellipse would correspond exactly to those on the wall. Danzer then applied the veneer to the molds with vacuum pressing technology. Before mounting, the ellipses were painted and finished at Maschmeier.
Thanks to Linea, we were able to fully realize our customer's specifications and ideas.
